As soon as I thought we were getting to the finish line, some things have come up to delay the opening. I’m not fully surprised, since you kind of have to anticipate some delays with business in general, but the gravity of it weighs no less!
I have been in the process of getting my food permit, and now need to pull permits with the engineering dept for my fire Marshall inspection.
Yes, I need a permit for a permit lol
My original application got sent back/rejected due to the building needing a full fire code review. Since the space was previously used as an antique shop and will now be a bar, this review needs to be done. Funny thing, though, that fire code review will cost anywhere between $2500-4000 for a licensed engineer or architect to complete.
Once that’s complete, I’ll be able to get my fire Marshal inspection and then schedule my food permit inspection. I have heard the fire Marshal office is about a month out for inspections, though.
On top of that fun, the county notified me that even though I paid $1900 for my TABC permit to the state, I still have to pay $1000 to the county.
And even MORE fun on top of that, I am having AC issues with the building. The AC unit that cools the main area keeps tripping the breaker and turning the unit off. I’m scheduling an electrician to come out asap to see what keeps tripping the breaker.
So all in all, it’s a bit of a cluster lol but keeping positive and working through each hurdle one step at a time. I’ve moved all the wine from NOTES that wasn’t in the cooler and brought it home to make sure it doesn’t go bad until AC is back running properly.
Wish me luck and keep NOTES in your prayers. Maybe we’ll be open before the end of the year 😅
